Not too long ago, my sister in law posted on being commercial free. She hates commercials so she just mutes the tv whenever they come on. However, her 2nd youngest daughter still picked up on a jingle to safe auto which she was able to catch on film. And apparently at that age it is adorable to here her sing that jingle. Yet today as we were at my mom's for E's birthday party she picked up and began singing the jingle that was currently on the television. This however was NOT AS CUTE!!! She began singing the jingle to Viagra. "Viva Viagra, viva Viagra" and so on and so on. Yikes! What are we teaching our kids? Apparently Heather's no commercial policy should be implemented in every house with children 18 and younger (and 19 and older). Give me a break! I am sure this problem has been going on for centuries, yet they managed to get through with out commercials. Can't we? Besides, who is going to explain what "E.D." stands for to a 10 year old? Are they? Also, I was shocked the other day when I sat down to watch Star Wars Clone Wars with my 6 year old and saw a commercial on a house that was "possessed" with kids going to see who could stay in the house and not be terrified. HELLO- between that and Harry Potter, I say Satan has the upper hand on us as Christians as anything to do with manners, virtues, character, and especially God are taboo subjects and might "influence" our children. It is truly a scary world we live in. So I think I am going to implement my own "no commercial" policy and say a big thank you to Heather for making me think about what my kids are picking up on. It would probably be good for everyone to adopt this policy not as much because they are annoying, but for the simple fact of what they are selling. Just some food for thought!

18 and under nothing! I wish I didn't know what that was!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but that is a little funny to picture. You need to start having your camera handy like I did. We must protect their hearts from every side. Maybe you and I will start a compain.
